Seasons

A cool breeze blows releasing
lovers from the summer weather
snapping the heartstring
that kept them together.

Leaves change from dark greens
to the stunning reds of fall.
Shorts change into jeans
and the days pass without a call.

The leaves spiral to their end
crunching under the feet of ghouls,
but a heart struggles to mend
stuck lounging by summer pools.

Grey clouds blanket hills white,
children await gifts under a great pine,
but a lover can’t close their eyes at night
thinking they will never again be fine.

White seeps into the earth
making way for green again,
as a lover seeks out a new birth.
Trying to find what the fall had slain
